A few honest words about accuracy, plus tips for getting the cleanest results out of FeatherPack's gear scanner.
FeatherPack uses AI to recognize your gear and work out its weight from a photo. It's built to save you the tedium of typing in every item by hand, but it will not be right 100% of the time. Here's exactly where it can be off, so you know when to double-check.
If FeatherPack can't find a printed weight on the tag, it estimates from what it recognizes, the brand, size and material. Treat that number as a guesstimate, not a measurement.
When a weight is printed on the tag, FeatherPack reads it directly and is usually spot on, but misreads happen (blurry text, worn tags, odd units). Never assume it's accurate to the gram.
Any name or weight can be corrected by hand at any time, tap an item in your Lager and edit it if a scan doesn't look right.
The scanner is fast, but it works best when you give it a clear, single target, a few habits make a real difference.
Scan a single piece of gear rather than a whole pile. That gives the AI a clean, unambiguous shot at recognizing it correctly.
The camera is constantly searching for something to identify. After you scan an item, tap Pause before setting up the next one, otherwise it may grab the next item, or the background, too soon.
Some items take the AI a little longer to weigh precisely. You'll see a small loading icon on that item until the weight is ready, that's normal, not a bug. No need to rescan, just wait a few seconds.
You can always fix it by hand in the app, and if something looks consistently wrong, let us know so we can improve it.
